Angels Newsletter #31
Dear Friends of Angels of the Amazon,
It has been a busy and productive time for Angels of the Amaozn (AoA); here are some of the projects that have kept us busy:
Education
We were able to provide some workshops for students during their school vacation (February-March). One project was a reading literacy program by professionals from Iquitos. They engaged the children with stories and used puppets to teach them about our Amazon Flora and fauna. The beauty of this
program is that it teaches the children to love and protect what they know in nature. We will continue this program in the future.
In April we hosted friends from Kick It Forward Foundation. They worked with the students to clean up, paint, and beautify the school campus to prepare to start the school year and distributed soccer jerseys. Later in April, AoA made its annual distribution of school supplies.
The AoA students who are in the city continuing with their education in academies, institutes and the university are thriving in their studies and making progress each year. The opportunity to have an advanced education and a meaningful career was previously not possible for these children from a remote jungle until recently. Please, ask us about sponsoring a student, and giving a child an opportunity for a better life.
Healthcare
The AoA hospital in Esperanza hosted a group of dentists from Louisiana, who provided needed dental care to 168 patients. Regular dental care and dental hygiene education
have made a tremendous difference in dental health in the communities.
AoA nurses recently visited the various Tahuayo communities to update the vaccines for babies and young children. We can better maintain vaccine storage with the upgrades we made to the solar power system last year.
June is the time of year we do our hospital fundraiser. AoA pays the salary of 4/5 of the staff of the hospital and supplies much of the equipment and supplies as well as maintenance. We have a list of supplies the hospital urgently needs (available upon request) and are asking for your continued support. The BJ Montgomery Discovery Foundation will match up to $5000.00 in donations.
Economics
The women artisans of Manos Amazonicas have been working on creating new designs and new useful household items for sale. The quality of their work, using
sustainable rainforest plants woven in traditional methods, continues to improve every year. You can see the products for sale on the AoA website. Empowering
the women of the communities economically has given them a stronger voice in their communities.
Your Donation
We thank you for your donations to support the AoA Hospital and the students of the Tahuayo River basin. All donations, 100%, go to fund our programs. Administrative salaries and overhead are paid by Amazonia Expeditions travel company. Donations can be made online via our website or sent by check. You can also help the women of Manos Amazonicas by buying their artesanias.
Thank you for your support! One child at a time!
Hope Lives!
