Angels Newsletter #35
Dear Friends of Angels of the Amazon,
We are pleased to communicate about the good progress on projects for the people of the Tahuayo River Basin.
Education
In the Tahuayo region, the new school year begins at the end of March. In April, Dolly, the Executive Director of Angels, visited the communities to distribute school supplies, conduct home visits with students in our high achievers program, meet with teachers, install new computers, and host a fun Earth Day event.
Thanks to our generous donors this year, we were able to provide school supplies to students attending schools in the communities of Buena Vista, Esperanza, San Carlos, and El Chino. Additionally, students from Canaan who attend Esperanza High School also received supplies. Our partner, the Kick It Forward Foundation, provided new P.E. uniforms for the students and assisted them in celebrating Earth Day by decorating their school with flowers. Kick It Forward also donated two computers to the computer lab at Jane Gordon Cook School. As a result of this generous donation, the government has allocated funding for Jane Gordon Cook School to hire additional computer science and math teachers.
Economics
AoA assisted the Manos Amazonicas artisans group by remodeling and painting their workshop, known as “Casa de Artisanos.” Additionally, our pilot sustainable farming initiative, Projecto La Granja, has been successful. With support from the McCabe Walls Family Foundation, we are currently expanding the project to include more families. In addition to providing economic aid, it is crucial in offering an ecologically sustainable alternative to the commercial hunting and shing programs.
Healthcare
The food season began in February this year. During this time, there is an increase in patients at the Angels of the Amazon Hospital, which serves as the regional health center for 17 communities. Thanks to your generous donations, AoA can maintain a fully stocked pharmacy and provide 24/7 patient care in this remote region. This year, we are pleased to welcome a new pharmacist, Danixa. Danixa grew up in El Chino and is excited to serve her community.
During flood season, children often suffer from respiratory infections. The medical staff has been visiting communities to provide healthcare education and preventative treatments.
Additionally, our nursery received donations of newborn clothes and baby blankets, which will be given to new mothers during these colder months. Our next healthcare fundraiser will take place in June to raise funds for staff, medical supplies, and equipment.
Your Support Matters
While we are satised with what we’ve achieved these months, our work continues to help those in need. We invite you to help us keep this momentum going and stay connected with our upcoming projects. Thanks for being an invaluable part of our journey and for believing in our mission. Together we make a difference.
Thank you for your support! One child at a time!
Hope Lives!
