Education
Tutoring, Supplies & Scholarships
The Angels of the Amazon has provided educational support for the villages of the Tahuayo River, concentrating on the four villages of the upper Tahuayo River, where the need is especially acute. In addition to the support received by the government, AoA provides the local elementary grade schools with tutors, books, school supplies, tables, chairs, regular nutritional breakfasts, and most recently a playground in Chino Village.
Angels of the Amazon has over 35 students on scholarship
The largest measurable impact that the AoA has thus far had on the educational opportunities for the children is the Scholarship Program initiative. Students with academic potential are identified and matched with donors who are historically former guests of Amazonian Expeditions tour company. Students supported by the Scholarship Programs have gone on to attend high schools, technical schools and universities in Iquitos city. The Angels of the Amazon’s viable programs are done with the financial support of Amazonian Expeditions. The company funds all aspects of the infrastructure, overhead and administration of AoA, in both the US and Peruvian offices. With this assistance, 100% of all donations made to AoA go directly to fund programs which address the needs of the indigenous people. These programs include medical and health care, educational assistance and economic and environmental programs.
Attention to Physical & Medical Disabilties
Special attention has always been provided for children with medical and physical disabilities both in the Tahuayo River basin as well as in Iquitos city. Angels of the Amazon provides materials and supplies to parents and teachers to help them better service the needs of the children in their care.
